Description
John Malherbe, lord of Morham, has given, and granted, and by this his present charter established to Newbattle Abbey a certain piece of his land of Duncanlaw (ELO) next to his peatary of ‘Cumbirstrother’ for drying their peats, by stated bounds. He also grants a certain piece of his peatery of ‘Cumbirstrother’ on the north side of the monks’ peatery, by stated bounds. He also grants and establishes those two roads that are often mentioned ‘alnate fronti’ in free entry and exit through all his land without any impediment for the carriage of their fuel, in pure and perpetual alms, free and quit from all secular service and demand.
