Description
John of Moray [‘Murref’] son of John of London has given, granted, and by this his present charter established, to Newbattle Abbey a certain part of his land which he has in the territory of West Fortune (ELO) by the gift of Ness his brother for his service, that is, that part of land which lies between the land of Danielston and the land which Ness his brother gave the monks and the burn of ‘Hertteburne’, by stated bounds, in pure and perpetual alms, free and quit from all service and exaction and secular custom and from any exigency which there could be in that land.
