Description
Thomas de Normanville gave, granted and by this his charter established to Melrose Abbey, for the salvation of his soul and all his ancestors and successors, in free and perpetual alms, all his land of Maxton (ROX) with the messuage, toft and croft and all the pertinents, freedoms and easement sat the land, which land Sir Guy de Normanville, his brother, gave to him in exchange for his land of Angus as the charter of Sir Guy testifies. They are to return to him and his heirs for all custom, service, exaction and demand at the fair of Roxburgh, one pair of gilded spurs and to the head lord of the feu at the same time one ‘tercellum’ [hawk] or three shillings of sterling.
