Description
William son of John son of Orm has granted, given and by this charter established to Melrose Abbey, for the soul of Kings David and Malcolm, his lords, and for the soul of Earl Henry and for the salvation of his lord, King William, and David, his brother, and for the salvation of himself and his wife and for the redemption of their souls and for the souls of their father, mother and all their ancestors and successors, in free, pure and perpetual alms, the whole donation which John, his father, gave to them of the land of Hownam (ROX) by its correct bound which John, his father, perambulated, between the land of Hownam and the land of Whitton and between the land of Hownam and the land of Grubbit and between the land of Hownam and the land of Clifton and between the land of Hownam and the land of Mow, by further stated bounds, free and quit from all aids, placitis, gelds, assizes, and from all service, custom and secular exaction. The monks are to return to him and his heirs 20 shillings annually. (damaged)
