Description
Richard le Waleys (I) has given and by this his charter established to Melrose Abbey, for the souls of David and Malcolm, kings of Scots, and Earl Henry and Walter son of Alan, his lord, and all their ancestors and successors, and for the souls of his father, mother and all of his relatives, ancestors and successors, and for the salvation of his lord, William, king of Scots, Earl David, his brother, and Alan son of Walter, his lord, and all his ancestors and successors, and for the salvation of him, his wife, and all his heirs, that land in Galloway which is called ‘Godnehc’ (AYR) by stated bounds. Additionally, he gave to the church that land which is called Barmuir (AYR) by stated bounds. He gave to the church of Melrose all these lands, in free, pure and perpetual alms, to be held from him and his heirs for 2 marks of silver, without any terrestrial service, custom and secular exaction, save the payment to him and his heirs and save their charters concerning Mauchline (AYR) which they have from Walter son of Alan and Alan son of Walter, his lords, and having been quitclaimed by him and his heirs in perpetuity.
