Document 3/83/1 (Arb. Lib., no. 56)

Description
Walter of Berkeley has remitted to the church of St Mo-Chonóc of Inverkeilor (ANG) and to Master Henry, persona of said church and king’s clerk, the ‘grescan’ (pasture tribute?) and every other service which the land of the church of Inverkeilor and the men dwelling on that land used to render to the thanes of Inverkeilor and afterwards to Walter.
Firm date
1173 X circa 1178
Dating Notes
Composed at the same time as the royal confirmation, _RRS_ ii, no. 186. These two charters are the first known attestations of Hugh clerk de Sigillo. As he was bishop of Dunkeld from 1214 to 1229 or 1230, this may suggest a date towards the end of this range.
