Document 3/21/10 (Neville, Strathearn, no. 9)

Description
Gilbert, earl of Strathearn, has given and granted, and established by his charter, to Inchaffray Priory, the church of St Cathan of Aberuthven (PER), with all its just pertinents, in teinds, offerings, obventions, with the land by its right bounds that his father Ferteth and his mother Eithne gave to the same church in dotem, with common pasture pertaining to the said church, in pure and perpetual alms.
Firm date
1200 X 1210
Probable date
early
Dating Notes
This charter was written after the introduction of canons at Inchaffray but before the death of Bishop Jonathan, and was probably intended to replace the earlier charter, which had been confirmed by the king, of the same church to the ‘brothers’ there, and thus may have been composed soon after 1200.
