Document 3/16/27 (Balm. Lib., no. 37)

Description
Malcolm, earl of Fife, has given, granted and by his charter established to Balmerino Abbey the whole water that flows from his mill of Rathillet (FIF) by their old water-course, which used to flow to the mill of Ballindean (FIF) in the time of Henry Revel and Richard Revel, in pure and perpetual alms, that they make use of it as fully and usefully as possible, without any exaction, contradiction or disturbance from himself, his heirs or his men. Moreover, he has granted the same monks that they may dig up turfs for the repair of the water-course as necessary, without any loss or damage to his arable land and meadow.
