Description
Abbot William and the convent of Newbattle binds himself and the convent to the master, prioress and convent of North Berwick to pay in perpetuity ½ mark within the octave of St Martin in winter for the ferme of all the land of Leith, namely, of one toft in that villa, and three acres of land in Greenside, which North Berwick had given and demitted to Newbattle in perpetuity, to hold from them by the said payment, made at North Berwick without further delay under pain of 12d. towards the roofing of the church of the convent of North Berwick. Nothing of the ferme can be born of prejudice to North Berwick; Newbattle renounces all letters obtained and all supplications by a judge’s official, full reinstatement of benefices made by summonses, any other summonses and all exception, persecution and whatever judicial remedy of the canons and public that shall oppose object against this instrument either in full or in part.
