Document 2/24/1 (RRS, i, App., no. 320)

Description
Gilbert, bishop of London, to Malcolm, king of Scotland; writes on behalf of bearer of his letter, his close relative Elias, asking king to accept his service and give him audience on subject of his inheritance. If he should find favour in king's sight, he would bring may others to his service, who would not be any charge on king's generosity. The bishop would not presume to ask this favour if he thought that Elias's father had been a traitor to King Malcolm or to his grandfather or father; but on contrary, he has heard that he was disinherited for loyalty to king's father.
