Laurence of Thornton, archdeacon of St Andrews (d.1238×40)

Biography
Watt and Murray, Fasti, 394, 418: Laurence had taken up the office of official of St Andrews since 21 May 1203, occurring in that office on 17 or 18 August 1204 and again in 1224. He may have remained in office until the death of Bishop Malveisin in 1238, though after 1224 he is only referred to as archdeacon of St Andrews. He had succeeded as archdeacon in 1209. He died (or was dismissed) before 29 March 1240. Watt, Graduates, 531-33: Laurence had a brother, Adam Ovid, who may have been the same as Adam Thorenton. He was Master by 1202×03 and was involved as a bishop's official and as a papal judge-delegate; he would also later supervise the schools of St Andrews as 'ferleyn'. He died July 1238 × 29 March 1240.
