David was the son of William Hay, lord Errol (d.c.1201). He had brothers, William, Thomas, John, Robert and Malcolm. He was sheriff of Forfar. Sir David de Haya, lord of Erroll, died between May 1237 and 18 Apr. 1241. He has a sons, Gilbert, William and David.
