William Meisser

Biography
The meaning of William's surname, 'Meisser' is uncertain. Three options have so far been identified: 1) OFr meisier, from Lat. mansionarius, a person in charge of lodgings; a sacristan. 2) OFr messier, meaning a harvester or hayward (see Messer) 3) an occupational name derived from OFr meise, 'a barrel for herrings'. Whether William's name stems from any of these three is uncertain.
